Trying to tag document, adds 'A'

New Here ,
Mar 21, 2023 Mar 21, 2023

I am trying to tag a document to make it ADA compliant. When I go to the tags tab to edit the tags, it adds an 'a' in random spaces. When I try to delete the 'a', there is a red line through it that I can't get rid of.  See the screenshots of what the document is supposed to look like vs. what it actually looks like. I have been tagging documents for years and this has never happened before - please help! Thank you!

Hi @Cindy289902851dj8.  That is an odd problem!

It might be a font problem. Could be:

  • Non Unicode/OpenType font was used which has a different character encoding system. Check all the fonts that were used in the document and make sure that somewhere in their description you see either "Unicode" or "OpenType."
  • The font isn't embedded in the PDF. Check your settings when exporting the PDF and ensure that it's embedding all fonts, subsetting if less than 100% were used.
  • You don't have the correct license from the font foundry to embed the font in PDFs.

Can you give us a bit more info?

  • Operating system.
  • Version of Adobe Acrobat Pro.
  • What program created the source file from which the PDF was exported.
  • Which method/softwre was used to export the PDF.
