How do you get rid of the text box when you are typing?  Thank you.

If you are typing new text on a PDF, the box in which you are typing vanishes from view when you click away to deselect the text box.  Or if you change tools, the same happens. If this is not your issue, please tell us more.  The more detail, the better shot we have collectively to help you find a solution.
