Unable to add Digital Signature

New Here ,
Mar 19, 2025 Mar 19, 2025

In creating a fillable form on Adobe, I am unable to add a field to have someone digitally sign. The fields I am adding are not a normal textbox. The ones I have tried using that say "add a signature field" only allow the person to type normal text into the box. After watching youtube videos, they have a button on their edditing window that says "add a digital signature".  I do not have that button available to me. I will upload a screen shot of my options within Adobe. What do I need to do from here?

in the future, to find the best place to post your message, use the list here, https://community.adobe.com/

p.s. i don't think the adobe website, and forums in particular, are easy to navigate, so don't spend a lot of time searching that forum list. do your best and we'll move the post (like this one has already been moved) if it helps you get responses.

Hello!

I hope you're doing well, and we apologize for the delayed response and the trouble.

Please ensure you have the latest version of Acrobat installed on the machine: 25.001.2043x Optional update, Mar 19, 2025. Check for any pending updates from the Menu > help > check for updates, install the updates, restart the app and the machine, and check. For more information, see this: https://adobe.ly/4iYGMH9.

  1. Verify Document Permissions

    • Ensure the PDF isn’t certified or restricted by the author. Go to File > Properties > Security and confirm "Comments, Fill & Sign" is allowed.

    • Check Document Security Settings

Verify Form Field Settings:

  • Ensure that the signature field is designated for digital signatures and not as a standard text field.
  • To set the correct field type:
    • Open your PDF in Acrobat.
    • Navigate to Tools > Prepare Form.
    • Select the signature field, right-click, and choose Properties.
    • Confirm that the field is set to accept digital signatures.
  • For detailed guidance, refer to Adobe's instructions on using digital signatures.

Flatten the PDF:

  • Complex PDFs with layers can cause issues.
  • Open the PDF in Acrobat, go to File > Print, select 'Adobe PDF' as the printer, and click 'Print' to create a flattened version.
  • This process simplifies the PDF structure, potentially resolving signing issues.

Let us know how it goes.

Thanks,

Anand Sri.
