Like a russian roullete, every time i enter adobe to edit a pdf file, i have to pray that it׳ll work.
this time i clicked the add text, all the texts suddenly got boxed in this broken gray short lines, and again i cant add a text no matter what i do. i guess it has something to do with the font but i dont know how to solve it. suggestions please?

Acrobat is a poor content editing tool. Change the text in the original file, then convert back to PDF.

Thank for the response. Unfortunately I'm unable to change the original text as its not a file I created. Someone sent it to me to edit and sign.

So you are editing someone elses document before you sign it? That's sounds very inappropiate.
If they wanted you to modify something, then they should have put that thing in a form field.

I was trying to add text to the contract my employer sent me, such as my name id etc
still sounds inappropriate?

That's exacty the kind of thing that should be in a form field.
In fact, you might try adding form fields for entering that data. It'll be easier than adding or modifying page content.
