Unable to annotate/markup password protected PDFs on iPad Pro

Hi guys,

I'm hoping someone can help me out. I'm a support technician for a business. Our executives all have iPad Pros that they use to look at documents during meetings, many of which are password protected.

One of the executives recieved a 6th Generation iPad Pro on the latest iPad OS version. He has an Apple Pencil as well, and uses these to markup and make comments/notes on documents during meetings. He has purchased the paid subscription for the Adobe PDF app, but he is unable to save and then annotate password protected PDFs he recieves from within the company.

He used to be able to just save the PDF to his iPad, open it in adobe, plug in the password, and then annotate as needed. Now he can save it, but when he goes to mark up on the iPad with his apple pencil, it gives an error saying he cannot annotate/markup password protected PDFS.

However, he is able to markup other password protected PDFs, and other PDFs that are not password protected just fine.

Is this a setting that needs to be adjusted for the person who is sending the PDFs, or is this a known feature/bug/issue with password protected PDFs on iPad/iOS?

Thanks.

I cannot edit password-protected PDF files on my iPad. Indeed, my iPad tells me that Fill & Sign, Comment, and Edit tools are not available on mobile for password-protected files. You need to remove the password first on the desktop Acrobat and then move over to the iPad.

So I doubt that your executive can mark up other password-protected PDFs.
