Unable to Remove Bates Numbers

I am trying to re-number some documents for a production, but I keep getting an error message that Adobe is unable to remove the bates numbers. The error message says:

"Adobe Acrobat cannot find any Bates Numbering in this file. If you see Bates Numbering information, it was not added in Adobe Acrobat or by an Adobe PDFMaker, and cannot be detected as such."

I literally used Adobe to add the numbers earlier today, why am I getting this message? I need to re-number and produce these docs today.

As per the issue description, you are not able to remove the Bates number in the PDF document, Is that correct?

Yes, that’s correct. I was able to get them removed, but the error message told me that Adobe couldn’t find the numbers, but I added them with Adobe so I don’t know what the issue is.

Hi Katiefranklin,

If you have Acrobat Pro create a new Action (via Tools - Action Wizard) with the Remove Bates Numbering command and a Save command and then run it on your files.

If possible, please check for any pending updates of Acrobat from Help>Check for updates.

Please share the following details:

Is it Adobe Reader or Acrobat?

Check the installed dot version from Help>About Adobe Acrobat.

I had the exact same problem, though this is years later.  I had multiple instances of Bates Numbering and removing them wouldn't work, including deleting the saved presets.  Very glitchy.  The only solution to remove them was your above solution (Tools - Action Wizard method).  I was then able to create properly working Bates Numbering.

I'm having the same problem!! What a nightmare.  Trying to get something filed in court this morning and can't remove the numbers.  Absolute fail.

STILL having this issue MONTHS later.   I can't redact them, I can't remove them.  Nothing.  I added the Bates number in the exact same version not more than a week ago.

Hope you are doing well. Sorry for the trouble, and the delayed response.

The team released a fix for the issue with the subsequent releases.

Would you mind updating the app to the latest version (2024.005.20xxx) and let us know if the experience bettered?
