Underlines Shift When Editing PDFs

I have a PDF document converted from Microsoft Word that contains underlined text. When editing the text in Adobe Acrobat DC, the underlines shift and I can't get them to stay with the original word. Can anyone help with this issue?

Change the Word document and create a new PDF file.

More specifically, underscores are not the same as italization or bolding of text. It isn't a text style attribute. Underlining may be done with a separate stream of underscore characters or even a vector line. As such, Acrobat text edit will unlikely be able to automatically move or remove text underscoring.

The fact is that Acrobat is not a text editor and PDF is really a “final form file format” and not an editable/source file format. It does provide rudimentary text “touch-up” features, but to perform edits with advanced formatting (including strikethroughs, underscoring, highlighting, etc.), you really need to go back to the “source” file and edit same, in this case editing the original Word document in Microsoft Word.
