Each time I open an Adobe doc file the top right hand box shows Upgrade downloading when in fact I hadnt signed up for an upgrade

What sort of Adobe doc? What is actual Adobe app you are using, and what version is it exactly?

In the Adobe CC Desktop application click on your profile image then on Preferences. What is the setting below (mine is off)

if you have an out-dated acrobat version that has security fixes available, you're going to see an alert.
