use Acrobat DC Pro 2017 on new laptop

Community Beginner ,

I'm trying to continue using Acrobat DC Pro 2017 on my new laptop. When I launch the application, I get a message that sign in is required. Then I accept the license agreement. Next comes a page entitled "Serial Number of Previous Version".  Below that it states: "Serial Number you provided is valid, but a qualifying product could not be found on this computer." Next: "To upgrade, you must provide the serial number of your previous version. Please select your previous product version and enter its serial number." First, I don't want to upgrade, at this time, I want to continue using Acrobat DC Pro 2017. Second, in the list of products provided, Acrobat DC Pro 2017 is not there. I have the serial number, which can be found on the products page of my account with Adobe. Does anyone have an idea how I can continue using Acrobat DC Pro 2017 on my new laptop? Thank you in advance.

You do not have Acrobat DC as DC means Document Cloud and that is available as a subscription.

The Acrobat serial number that you have is for an upgrade to Acrobat 2017. To finish the setup procedure, you need to give also the serial number of the prior version. You upgraded at the time to Acrobat 2017.

Thank you for your reply. You are right I do not have Acrobat "DC". The product page of my Adobe account lists Acrobat Professional version 17 and Acrobat Professional version 11.0. The serial number I entered during the setup is the one listed next to version 17. I was not aware of an upgrade of Acrobat 2017 Professional. And there had been one would it not be listed on the products page? The only two serial numbers I have is for the versions mentioned above. Suggestions? Thanks for your help.

You upgraded your XI to 2017. So the qualifying product is the serial number of XI.

For activating a product with an upgrade serial number, you need to provide proof that you had a prior product. As XI is not installed and activated on your system, Acobat 2017 does know about the prior version.

Thank you for taking the time to follow this saga.

As I understand your description, are you saying that I should install version 11 on the computer then install version 17?

No! See what you wrote initially:

Next comes a page entitled "Serial Number of Previous Version".  Below that it states: "Serial Number you provided is valid, but a qualifying product could not be found on this computer." Next: "To upgrade, you must provide the serial number of your previous version. Please select your previous product version and enter its serial number."

These instructions are very clear.

Please select your previous product version    That is Acrobat XI!

and enter its serial number.  That's the serial number of Acrobat XI!

There is no need to install Acrobat XI.

Thank you for the suggestion but I did that previously. I select Adobe Acrobat XI Pro Windows and enter the serial number that is on the products page for that item. What I get is the following message: "The serial number is not for a qualifying product. Please try another." Where do I go from here?

Did you enter the serial number for your Acrobat XI, when you got that?

Thank you for persisting with this...

It was a while back but I supposed I did; otherwise I would not have been able to use it, right?

As for now, I am using the serial numbers (for XI and 17) that are on my products page.

Hey, no worries. Thanks for hanging in there for so long. I'll ask around and if I can't get version 17 to work on my new laptop, I'll still use it on my old one. All the best.

For the sake of completeness, I am enclosing three screenshots: 1) the window that pops up after agreeing to the end-uder license; 2) the same window after selecting Acrobat XI Pro Windows and entering the serial number associated with it; 3) same window with the message in the yellow area at the top. I cannot go beyond this: i.e., the "Next" button is not activated.

Thanks again.

LATEST

I ended up purchasing Adobe DC Pro 2020, which is pretty much the same as 2017.
