When I open Google Chrome, Adobe Acrobat then opens....

Explorer ,
Jun 07, 2023 Jun 07, 2023

This just started today and I even updated the app thinking that might fix the problem.

When I open Google Chrome not even 2 seconds later Adobe Acrobat app opens up (very annoying).

Not sure why this is happening - did not see anything in preferences for a setting even similar to this issue.

When I close Google Chrome (with Adobe Acrobat closed) and reopen Chrome, the same exact thing happens again.

Any ideas???

Hi @missi29068092zr06

Hope you are doing well.

When I open Google Chrome not even 2 seconds later Adobe Acrobat app opens up (very annoying).

When I close Google Chrome (with Adobe Acrobat closed) and reopen Chrome, the same exact thing happens again.

This is quite a surprising scenario for us as well as both Google Chrome nor Acrobat Pro desktop app doesn't have any interrelation during launch.

Even if you have enabled the Acrobat Pro browser plugin, that will open the Acrobat desktop app only if you choose to Open web PDF in the Acrobat Pro desktop application.

Just do a clean install of Acrobat following these steps and see if that helps:

Run this cleaner tool to remove the existing installer and application’s file traces:

https://www.adobe.com/devnet-docs/acrobatetk/tools/Labs/cleaner.html

Download the Acrobat installer from here:

https://helpx.adobe.com/acrobat/kb/acrobat-dc-downloads.html

Thanks,

Akanchha

I disabled the  Acrobat Pro browser plugin and the issue went a way - but I really liked having that in my browser! I will do the uninstall and reinstall to see if that resolves the issue - I failed to mention the version I have - Acrobat Pro 2023.003.20201. It will probably be tomorrow when I do that, but will be sure to let you know if it works! Thank you!

I think the issue is a setting that needs to be manually enabled/disabled directly in the Chrome web browser.

Can you confirm if this is happening ONLY when you try to open a URL link that contains a PDF document?

OR

Does it happens whenever you launch the web browser by itself to browse any website?

This only happened when opening Chrome browser by itself (no clicking on a pdf link or anything, simply to open the browser). Latest update - I just turned on the extension again and tested it out - did not open up Acrobat like yesterday (thank goodness). Hoping it was just a fluke thing that happened. Thank you for your prompt response and assistance! Greatly appreciated!!!!

@KJohnson57, thanks for flagging this. Have you tried doing a clean install of Acrobat, as suggested in the last steps? Also, is the most recent version, 2023.003.20201 same as the above case?

@missi29068092zr06, thanks for confirming the version. This is the latest patch released on the 6th. https://www.adobe.com/devnet-docs/acrobatetk/tools/ReleaseNotesDC/index.html

To figure out whether its started to happen with the latest build or browser update is affecting this, we'd need more details from you:

Can you share the screen recording of your workflow (step-by-step)

Thanks,

Akanchha

Hi @missi29068092zr06 @KJohnson57 , can you please mention the machine environment in which you're in? Or you're in WIN machine or MAC? To reproduce this bug, will be so helpful. Thanks!

@missi29068092zr06 @KJohnson57 can you please verify if setting "Open PDFs from last session on Acrobat launch" is enabled on your Acrobat. We are able to reproduce the issue with this setting on.

For checking this, you can on Acrobat - Press ctrl+k, and on Generel option check "Open PDFs from last session on Acrobat launch" if this is enabled.
