Where is the Change Conversion setting in acrobat pro

Community Beginner ,
Aug 12, 2021 Aug 12, 2021

I am not able to find this option . please give me the exact path how to change this. I was trying to export comments from pdf - it gives me error message : When the pdf was created the content in it was not tagged.  Exporting comments will only work if the PDF is tagged PDF.

PDF is not tagged When the PDF was created, the content in it was not Tagged.
Exporting comments into a Word document will only work if the PDF is a tagged
PDF. To create a tagged PDF, you must select "Change Conversion Settings" from the
"Adobe PDF" menu, and check the box labeled "Enable accessibility and reflow with
Tagged PDF."

You should try to "Autotag" the PDF document using Acrobat Pro, before exporting Comments:

Hi NanoLM

Hope you are doing well and sorry for the trouble. As described, you are unable to find the option for 'change conversion settings'

Please check out the correct answer marked in a similar discussion - https://community.adobe.com/t5/acrobat/how-to-change-conversion-settings/m-p/1716231 and see if that helps.

For more information about creating a tagged PDF from authoring application please check the help page -

No Amal,

My question still remains : I am unable to find the path to " To create a tagged PDF, you must select "Change Conversion Settings" from the "Adobe PDF" menu, and check the box labeled "Enable accessibility and reflow with Tagged PDF."

Just click around a bit. I found on the Acrobat ribbon under Preferences rather than Change Conversion Settings.

I already answered, you need to look in the Acrobat ribbon in Word. You don't seem to be looking there at all. This is something that needed to be done when the PDF was made, you can't do it later.

1) I have followed what you suggested but that did not work. I had tried from word doc , in acrobat ribbon. ( please find the screenshot attached).

"This is something that needed to be done when the PDF was made, you can't do it later."

2) So this error that I am getting has no resolution now?

The pdf is not mine. So I don't have the word document for it. It is for a pdf that I have received ( a book) .

When you don't have the Word document you can't export the comments to the Word document!

So what you want to do doesn't make sense, because you never had that original document, and that's the only place the comments could go. But I'm sure there is something very reasonable that you do want to do. What is your purpose here, what are you trying to achieve?

1. I have a huge pdf ( a book 1500+ pages ) , and I have highlighed some key sentences from that book.

2. I have also added some comments when reading

3. Now I want to export the highlihged sentences and revise them ( instead of opening the huge book and going to every page and reading it ).

4. But I am unable to do that.

Please find attached the screenshot.

Note I have tried that both from word and pdf ( both ways) I get same error.

Try "Create Comment Summary".

Thanks Bernd Alheit!  that is a workaround but the issue with that option : which I tried before is that :

Create Content summary creates a pdf with repeating author , create date etc. which I have to manually remove . if there 1000 lines then I will have to edit 1000 times. ( Or again write a script - turn this into a text file etc which is very cumbersome).

please the screenshot attached.

Thanks JR Boulay ! This works!

is there any possibility that the comments can be adjusted a little bit to the left? is that adjustable?

screenshot attached. ( The screenshot is after exporting the comments to the word document ).
