I just want to mark up a copy of my bank statement. The fact that it is a secured document disables all kinds of usability. I'm doing my taxes the way I always have, but your updates and changes are making this app completely useless.

This is usually due to one of two reasons: The file is either protected so that you cannot update it, or the file does not contain text (but instead am image of text, or vector drawings that look like text to us). The first one is easy to check: Bring up the document properties (Ctrl-D or Cmd-D) and then look at the "Security" tab. Are there any limitations listed? If so, then you are very likely running into the first problem. If you can add other comments/annotations (e.g. a sticky note, or a free text annotation), then you are very likely dealign with the second problem.

The author of the statement (ie, the bank) decided to apply a security policy that prevents adding comments to it. The application respects that policy. If you don't like it, complain to the bank.

discovered that instead of downloading the pdf from your bank, you can opt to 'print' as PDF. Then you can edit the PDF. Hope that helps.
