Acrobat DC stopped opening files

Hi there

I have about 10 pdfs which were all working fine until recently, but now I cannot open the older files anymore (they are all in "This PC - Documents"). When I click on them, I get the little blue circle for a moment, then nothing. The  more recent files still work fine. When I copy the problem files to another location, they open as normal, but when I copy them back to replace the original problem files, they still don't work. OK, I can still access the files, but if I can't keep them in my "documents" folder, it will be a real nuisance.

I have tried unchecking  the ā€˜Protected mode at startup' option, also reinstalling Acrobat DC, but still no luck.

Any ideas anybody?

Hi there

We are sorry for the trouble. As described above, you are not able to open the old files.

Are you getting any error message while trying to open the old files?

What is the version of the Adobe Acrobat DC installed? To check the version of the application please use the link : https://helpx.adobe.com/acrobat/kb/identify-product-version.html

Make sure you have the latest version 19.21.20056 installed. Go to Help > Check for Updates.

Please try the following preference settings and see if that works. Go to Edit  > Preferences > Enhanced Security > Add file and Add folder path to Adobe Acrobat > Click OK and restart the application.

Also, please try to recreate the files by doing save as and rename the files and try again and check.

Let us know how it goes

Hi Amal

Thanks for the fast response. When following your advice to add the file path, I noticed that the path was too long, so I don't know why it was not a problem before, but some re-naming and re-organising seems to have solved the problem.

Many thanks!
