Acrobat Read Out Loud Not Working

New Here ,
Oct 24, 2017 Oct 24, 2017

I have been plagued with read out loud issues not working at all on my computer, but working fine on others and have no idea why. I make documents 508 compliant for a living so this is a real problem for me. This issue has translated to a new computer with brand new files and updated software (creative cloud), so I would really like a resolution to this issue. I am on the latest imac, latest software, so have no clue why it is still an issue for me. I disabled enhanced security and have years of successful compliance experience behind me so I know my files are set up correctly. (Although acrobat no longer reads the tagging order I create in InDesign so I always have to tweak it now in Acrobat and never had to do that before.) Can you offer me some assistance?

I could send the file to you, but it would most likely be fine on your end.

Hi PointerDesigner,

Thanks for sharing the information.

Just to cross check, have you activated the "Read Out Loud" option under Acrobat application?

You may open PDF>View (upper left corner)> Read Out Load > Activate Read Out Load

You may also check the Edit>Preferences>Reading settings, is there anything that you are missing there?

Also, please share the exact version of Adobe Acrobat you are working on, Acrobat>Help>About Acrobat?

If you have all the setting enabled and its still not working, then you can share the file with us via email. You can check your inbox to find the email address to which you need to send the file.

Regards,

Akanchha

Yes Read Out Loud is Activated. The Pause and Stop options are enabled as if it is reading. But no actual sound occurs unless I click on a particular section or line of type and then it reads that one only.

I have the latest version available of Acrobat Pro DC version 2017.012.20098

I will email you one of the many documents I have created that are fully compliant and work fine on other's versions of acrobat. I will assume it will work on your end as well. It just doesn't work on my mac. If this is the case, and since its a new machine (software was migrated from the old), and this has been occurring for some time now across many upgrades, reader vs. pro, etc, I have to believe there is something wrong in the settings of my software and I don't know how to fix it.

Looking forward to clearing this up finally!!

Hi PointerDesigner,

Sorry for the delay.

We have tested the file at our end on latest version (2018.003.10036) of Adobe Acrobat DC and everything seems to be working fine.

There isn't seems to be any problem reading the file.

You may check under View>"Read Out Loud">Read this page only is selected or not? In order to read the entire page in one go, Reader this page only should be selected.

Also, you may check the pending updates of Acrobat- Acrobat>Help>Check for update

Regards,

Akanchha

Hi. Please read my posts and refer to:

"I will email you one of the many documents I have created that are fully compliant and work fine on other's versions of acrobat. I will assume it will work on your end as well. It just doesn't work on my mac."

and

"I have been plagued with read out loud issues not working at all on my computer, but working fine on others and have no idea why."

I need to find out why this is happening on my version(s) of Acrobat.

Ho do I do that? I am on the Creative Cloud and it is not indicating there is an update available.

Launch Adobe Acrobat DC>Help (upper left corner)>Check for updates, do you see any update available there?

One more thing that I noticed about software migration from old machine to new (current) as you have mentioned above. Did you transfer the software (Adobe Acrobat) from old computer to new, or did you reinstall it on this one?

Transferring software from one machine to other might affect the functionalities. We always recommend to do a fresh installation.

You may move the Adobe Acrobat to the trash and reset its preferences by following the steps mentioned below, and reinstall it.

How to reset Acrobat Preference settings to default.
