Goodmorning, I've always substituted texts on Acrobat Reader by selecting the wrong word and directly writing the correct word. Unfortunately, it doesn't work in this way anymore.
Now, for every single correction I have to select the "substitute" tool and then select the word and then writing the correct word.
I know it seems the same, but as a proofreader a correct thousands of errors everyday and that addition click literally double the time of each assignment.
I have tried everything, I have also disinstalled the program, but nothing changed.
How can I fix this?
Thank you for your help.
Tommaso

Hi Souvik. I'm available. I thought this was just a new [bad] feature that came with the last update. It was not the first time it happened, though. Earlier this year the same thing happened, than it came back to "normal" and recently the problem came back again. FYI, I'm using a Mac version. thank you.

I have shared an email from my official email address with both of you.
Please review the email and schedule a call at your convenience.
Thanks,

I am having the very same problem, resulting in a large loss in usability.
I will just add a detail: as discussed above, in the old version (or old interface), selecting some text and typing would add a comment.
But also : having the cursor somewhere, and typing text was adding text as a comment. Both are useful.
This morning I updated to 24.3.20112.0, and I saw no improvement.
But if I typed many characters, I saw a popup suggesting getting the premium version to modify the text (this happened only once).
I am just wondering if this popup doesn't capture the text.
Have a nice day,
Vincent.

Hi @vincent_8181,
Thanks for writing in!
I tried the following steps on reader:
Open a document -> select a text-> press delete key-> start typing.
A comment popped up, and I was able to write it in.
Please let me know if this is not working for you.

This procedure works, and indeed that's the workaround I have used recently.
But that doesn't compensate fully the loss of usability compared to the old version.
Especially, I have to delete (at least a character) to add some text.
Regards, V.

Besides the issues that we are all experiencing, using the procedure described (the "walkaround") generates another problem: when I import the notes from Reader to InDesign, they are all crossed because thay were supposed to be deleted, not substitued. So that my InDesign file is to be re-edited completely.
This is a big issue for publishers and reviewers.
@S. S I know you are working with the Adobe techincal office to fix it, but in the meanwhile, could you please provide us with a special link to download the old version?
Thank you,
Tommaso

Also, this is being worked upon, and should be available with the upcoming update.

In the process, I am asked to select the app that I want to update but I am not allowed to select Adobe Acrobat DC. In this passage, the process automatically interrupt.
I tried to unistall the app, but I experience the same issue: when I am asked to select the app I want to update, I have no icon to select.

Hi @tommaso_maria,
Try this link: Adobe - Adobe Acrobat Reader Distribution
But before installing, run the Acrobat cleaner tool https://www.adobe.com/devnet-docs/acrobatetk/tools/Labs/cleaner.html, reboot the computer once.
This will clear all of the currently installed version; allowing you a fresh install.

Hi Souvik,
I followed your instructions but the process didn't work.
Do you think that in the next automatic update Adobe will fix the issue?
In order to continue to use Acrobat we really need to use those functions!
Thank you
Tommaso

I have now version 24.4.20272.0 installed.
Still struggling with inserting text easily.
Can you also add keystroke (the equivalent of delete for replacing) allowing to do this?
In the old version, any letter would do.
Maybe a return as many keyboards don't have an "insert" key.

My work around now is :
1) click where I want to insert.
2) shift-arrow to select a single character (a blank susually)
3) press delete to remove it
4) type my text.
Old version was : 1) + 4)
Having a return to insert would replace 2) and 3), no as good as the old way, but at least one step less and cleaner.

Hi @vincent_8181,
Thanks for writing in!
This is scheduled for the coming release.
While I do not have the complete details, the functionalities should be available as they were before.
