Adobe Acrobat Reader kann docx nicht öffnen ("wird nicht unterstützt")

Der Reader sagt "Dateityp wird nicht unterstützt", wenn ich mein Word-Dokument mit ihm öffnen will. Woran kann das liegen? Vorher hat das immer funktioniert - und der Reader ist bei mir installiert.

Reader could never open Word files. If you were able to do it in the past then you had Acrobat, which converted the Word file to a PDF when you opened it. But the free Reader can't do that. It can only display existing PDF files.

Oh, thank you. I am working with my employer's software and trusted that I have everything it needs to do my work, obviously not true. So I need a paid-for version, is that right?

If you wish to convert Word files to PDF using Adobe technology, yes.
