Adobe Acrobat Standard and Adobe Reader bring Error "Font Arial MT not found"

New Here ,
Feb 19, 2018 Feb 19, 2018

This happens intermittently in both programs.

It is always the same error and on the second try to open the pdf-file no error is generated and the file opens without problems.

When the error occurs, the pdf is missing most of the text, mainly starting from page 2 of the file.

Arial is installed on the system, the installed fonts are identical to other machines that do not have this issue.

The same file can be opened on another machine or on the same machine on other dates without issues.

It occurs only for files that are opened from either MS Outlook or from a network share.

The event viewer does not show any errors on the dates this issue occurs, log files for both programs do not exist (as far as i know).

The issue is extremely annoying and should be resolved.

Hi Andreask,

There is a possibility that the font information isn't embedded in the pdf as the following thread discusses:

Error message when opening PDF with Acrobat Reader DC, "Cannot find or create the font Arial Unicode...

If you have Adobe Acrobat installed on the machine, try embedding font information using preflight tool. Refer to this link for more info: How do I embed fonts using the Adobe XI please? (Edit PDF)

How do i enbed fonts in acrobat dc pro?

You may also try the steps suggested in this link: Error - Cannot find or create the font ArialMT. Some characters may not display or print correctly (...

Also, let us know Acrobat dot version installed on the machine: Identify the product and its version for Acrobat and Reader DC

Thanks,

Shivam

Hello Shivam

I have just checked, whether or not the font is embedded. The font is embedded and should not therfore work.

Since every other user can open the files without running into the problem, I don't think this could be it anyway.

The user (and I myself) does not have the Pro Edition, only Standard. Therefore the second Option is not viable.

Additionally, I don't see this as part of the problem, since it only fails for this user.

I have advised the user to test the third Option (chaning the "Internet" Setting), as I see this as a potential problem (the issue only occurs from Outlook or a network share).

I will update you on the issue, as soon as I get a Feedback.

Acrobat Reader DC: 18.009.20050

Acrobat Standard DC: 17.012.20098

Hello Shivam

As I have written above, the user has changed the Option in the Internet Settings.

However, this did not have a positive effect, since the change the user still has the issue (last time on Wednesday).

Do you know other possible solutions?

Regards,

Andreas

Hi Andreas,

Sorry for the delay in response.

Would it be possible to share the problematic pdf file with us here in the forums? To share the file, refer to steps given in this link: How to share a file using Adobe Document Cloud

Thanks,

Shivam

LATEST

Hello Shivam

I am sorry, but the latest issues were with sensitive documents and therefore we cannot share the pdf files.

What I am still puzzled by is, that the issue only occurs on the first opening of the file.

That is regardless of whether or not another person already opened the file.

How can that be?

If it were a Problem with the file itself, shouldn't the issue occur when first time opening the file, no matter what user opens the file?

Regards,

Andreasthat
