Adobe Reader DC and Windows 7 AppLocker issue

Guest

Adobe Reader DC is getting the following error when opening form-fillable PDFs from the web on a windows 7 system:

Failed to load an application resource (internal error).

Local\EWH-376-0

Or locally on the workstation:

Failed to load an application resource (internal error).

iProtectedView is set to 2 and AppLocker is in audit only mode for DLLs.  Without iProtectedView enabled the form-fillable PDF opens with no problems, with iProtectedView enabled and AppLocker completely unconfigured the form-fillable PDF opens with no problems.

This is a completely repeatable issue that has come up in our environment and I am able to re-create this issue in my home lab with no other applications installed, thus reinstalling has no effect.  I am currently downloading Windows 10 to attempt a recreation on that OS.

We have a support contract with Microsoft and they have determined they need to work with Adobe on this issue as they are unsure of what the Adobe Reader DC APIs are actually doing, however Adobe has specified they do not provide any support for Adobe Reader and to post this issue on the forums.

Has anyone else run into this issue and been able to solve this while keeping iProtectedView enabled with AppLocker configured?

Thank you in advance.

Hi Haxtheaxe,

Please visit this link: Protected View feature for PDFs (Windows), Adobe Reader

Let us know if that helps you out.

If the above doesn't let us know where the files are located? If they are located on Shared/Network drive, try copying them to a local machine and try again.

Focus on privilege location from above link.

Regards,
Tariq Dar.
