Adobe Reader Search function through Citrix

Adobe Reader through citrix -

We currently have two users who are unable to search PDF files that others can search without issue.  When the two users open same file locally in Adobe Reader, users have no issues searching.

For reference our citrix version is 2402 LTSR cumulative update 1.

Servers run Server 2019 and Server 2022. I install the 64 bit version of Adobe Reader.

If there is a preferred method to install on citrix, or registry keys or settings we may need, it we a huge help to find out what those are.

Hello @University Radiology

I hope you're doing well. We apologize for the delayed response and the trouble.

Please ensure you have the latest version of Acrobat Reader installed on the machine: 25.001.20937. Planned update, Nov 20, 2025. Check for any pending updates by navigating to Menu > Help> Check for Updates. Install the updates, restart the app and the machine, and try again.

  • Open one of the problem PDFs locally and press Ctrl+F > search for a known word.
  • If it only works after running OCR, the Citrix issue is not the root cause; those files need OCR or an index. See 'Creating PDF indexes' (Acrobat Pro feature, for collections) if your organization uses catalogs.

For testing purposes, please Disable Protected Mode.

  • Open Adobe Reader

  • Go to Menu > Preferences > Security (Enhanced)

  • Uncheck:

    • Enable Protected Mode at startup

    • Enable Enhanced Security

  • Restart the session

  • Please enable the security settings after the test.

If Only Two Users Are Affected, then the issue is very likely: Their Citrix profile is missing Adobe folders. Their profile is read-only. Corrupted plug-ins under their roaming profile. Protected Mode is still enabled only for them.

Fix: Delete/refresh profile paths.

Let us know how it goes.

Thanks,

Anand Sri.
