Adobe update removed my sound icon from computer's task bar

New Here ,
Dec 14, 2018 Dec 14, 2018

I have Windows 8.1. I updated my free version of Adobe Reader when prompted this morning. After doing so, I noticed that the sound icon in my computer's taskbar was gone. I right clicked on the taskbar, clicked Properties, Customize, and scrolled down to the sound icon listing. Instead of it being listed as sound, it is now listed as Adobe sound and it is muted. The behavior bar for that icon had show icon and notifications. I had to uninstall the adobe reader program. As soon as I did, the sound icon was back!!  I tried to find an older version of the reader but it keeps directing me to the latest version. I am wondering if anyone else had this problem and if they found a work around so that they could keep the program. It has become a necessity for me and I can't use it!! Very frustrating.

Can you confirm the exact version of Acrobat Reader DC? Open Reader>Help>About Reader

Are you experiencing this issue with the latest patch version 2019.010.20069? It might be a problem with the user account itself. Could you please crate a Hidden administrator account and check the same in new user account?

Hi Heathers,

We are sorry for the delay in response.

If we understand your query correctly, your system sound icon get changed to Adobe Acrobat icon with the update? It shouldn't be the problem with the Acrobat as it shouldn't effect  the system settings.

Does it only effects the sound icon or other settings are also getting changed?

You may please install the latest patch of Acrobat DC Release Notes — Release Notes for Acrobat DC Products  and see if that helps resolving this issue.

Regards,

Akanchha
