Can't restart my iMac as message says software is being installed. Adobe Reader X1 onto iMac running Catalina. Installation is completely static at about 80% ... have left it alone for over an hour. Now I have the message on the desktop, Cancel greyed out, can't restart as may damage the computer. HELP! Stuck!

Moved to Acrobat Reader from Acrobat Reader Mobile (beta)

Please install the free Adobe Acrobat Reader DC on Catalina and not Reader XI which has not been supported since 2015.

I have exactly the same issue!

I found an article online that listed a bunch of ways to force quit something on a mac, but when I go to restart my computer the installer just pops back up again!

I've tried to delete every file on my computer that is related to adobe reader and adobe installers and it still wont go away! I think its starting to effect other apps running on my computer.

Reader XI cannot be installed on Catalina no matter what. When do you get the message? Did you start installing it yourself?

You CANNOT run Reader XI on Catalina. Don't try.

If you are stuck, please tell us the message you get. (So we can translate it, please type it out, not just a screen shot)

I'm running an iMac on Big Sur Version 11.2.3 and have the same problem. I force quit the installation but it just keeps popping up and prevents restarting my Mac.

LATEST

Hey!

Would you mind confirming the Adobe application's exact version running on Mac OS Big sur? This discussion is about Acrobat Reader XI, which is a very old version of Acrobat series. Are you referring to the same?

If not, and this is the latest Acrobat Reader DC causing trouble for you, then try the following steps:

1- Reboot your computer

2- Run the cleaner tool to remove the old file traces of application's installation. https://www.adobe.com/devnet-docs/acrobatetk/tools/Labs/cleaner.html

3- Once done, try this link to begin the installation again: https://helpx.adobe.com/acrobat/kb/acrobat-dc-downloads.html

Thanks,

Akanchha
