these sections on the right and left of my document will not close even after changing the settings under edit/documents - remember current state of Tools Pane

Sorry about the delay in response.

The screenshot shows the comment pane is open on the right. To keep the comment pane close when opening the PDF, use the following steps:

- Go to Edit > Preferences > Commenting.

-  Under the Viewing Comments, unmark the box for "Show comments pane when a PDF with comments is opened."

- Click on the OK button.

For the navigation pane, try the following steps:

- Go to View > Show/Hide > Navigation Panes.

- Select "Hide Navigation Pane."

Try relaunching the application.
