bookmarks aren't syncing across devices and eventually disappearing

So I've got reader on my mobile device and my Linux laptop and I can' t get bookmarks to sync, nor can I get them to stay. After opening a particular file a couple times, the bookmarks I've saved, either on my laptop or my phone disappear. What's going on?  Thanks
