can i bookmark with acrobat reader? if not, what software do i need?

If you want to create what is considered a pdf "bookmark", you wold need the full version of Acrobat.

If you just want to use something like a traditional bookmark to hold your place in a pdf that you are reading you can go to Edit>Preferences>Documents>Open settings and check the box that says "Restore last view settings when reopening documents".
