That me add a little more information to Bernd's answer: You can add images in Adobe Reader, but only if it's version DC (and it has to be a recent version of DC), earlier versions of the free Reader will only import pages of PDF files, so you would need to convert your image to a PDF file before it can be used in an image field. If you want to use this feature, you will have to make sure that your users are aware of this limitation.
