This just started happening today.

Adobe Acrobat XI v.11.0.13

When trying to create a PDF from a DOC I receive the "could not open..not supported file type or because the file has been damaged."

The word documents have been created by me and saved locally. It worked yesterday.  I also attempted it with files that I have already converted and they no longer will work either.

Are you plugging for points? No answer was provided. I solved my own issue. Nancy OShea was the only one to respond. If anyone, she should get credit.

Uh. No. I was telling you that you  screwed up and were asking your question in an unrelated forum for a different product.
