Can't open any word files in Adobe Arcobat DC. Please Help.

I am running Office 2007 and have the 2018 version of Adobe Arcobat DC.  There is no addin in Word and the Abode installation does not have the addin file in it's program file.  I've tried the Repair installation with no change.

Every time I try to open a Word file in Adobe I get this:

"Adobe Acrobat Reader could not open 'file name' because it is either not a supported file type or because the file has been damaged (for example, it was sent as an email attachment and wasn't correctly decoded)."

The word files are generated on my computer in Office, but I want to save them as pdf.  I used to be able to do this until I installed this 2018 version of abode.  Please help.

Acrobat Reader can't open Word documents. Use Adobe Acrobat for this.

When I google Adobe Acrobat, only the Acrobat Reader comes up.  I can't even find a free version that doesn't say reader with it.

2 months ago I had a free pdf program from Adobe that would convert word to pdf.  I could save a word file as a pdf file.  I can no longer do that with this Adobe Acrobat.  What do you think was the free program from Adobe?

I used to be able to save a word document as a pdf and then open it in Adobe, but the option is not there anymore and I can't install the addin to word because the Adobe program file doesn't have the proper file listed in the other forums.   addin.dll file.

There is no free version of Adobe Acrobat. May be it was the trial version of Adobe Acrobat.

Okay.  Shouldn't I still be able to have the option to save in a word document as a pdf in word?

For questions about Word use a Microsoft forum.

I will try that, but why can't I find a adobe addin.dll in the program file to add to Word?  That might fix my problem.  Shouldn't the adobe program come with the addin?

The addin is part of Adobe Acrobat, not Acrobat Reader.

Please check your version and names. Do you have the 2018 version of Adobe Acrobat DC or the free Adobe Acrobat Reader? And is it Office 2007? That is very old, and there are several newer versions.

Adobe gave away PDF technology many years ago and it is owned by an ISO. You can make a Microsoft PDF with Microsoft products and it has nothing to do with Adobe. You can then view it in an Adobe product or another PDF viewer. In Word, I think you do make a Microsoft PDF with Save As or Print, but I'm not sure going back to 2007 how or if it works.

You can also make an Adobe PDF with Microsoft products if you have Adobe Acrobat by using the Acrobat tab on the ribbon. Sometimes it doesn't show up automatically and has to be activated.

In addition, you can make Adobe PDFs with the free Adobe Acrobat Reader if you have the PDF pack.

I think Bern is right. Acrobat Reader can't open Word documents, you must use Adobe Acrobat.

OpenOffice.org and Libre Office both can export Word, Excel, PowerPoint documents to PDFs. If you create a form in the Writer program and use the control fields, the exported form will even have the form fields.
