cannot download free reader

I was asked to update my adobe reader that was installed on my computer when I bought it. I followed the instructions. I updated it to the adobe reader DC. I did not want that. I don't want any of my files in a cloud. I backed out of the update and now I don't have ANY pdf reader.

I have attempted to download the reader from the adobe site Adobe Acrobat Reader DC Install for all versions 50+ times choosing my operating system: windows 7, choosing my  language: English, and choosing the version: Reader 11.0.10, I decline and of the Google options (Total size: 72.3 MB) and press DOWNLOAD NOW. It immediately goes to a blue bar that states "Initializing". Then after a few moments it states "If you encounter any issues downloading Adobe Acrobat Reader DC, click here"

I click on the prompt and it takes me to a screen with step by step instructions with windows that should have appeared at step one after choosing the system, language and version options. These windows never appeared for me to follow.

I have disabled my Norton antivirus

I followed all the computer security recommendations

I even contacted Adobe customer service at their toll free number (the representative stated he could only help with purchased products)

HELP PLEASE

This is as bad as ransom ware!!

You can try using this tool to first remove all traces of Reader from your computer:

http://labs.adobe.com/downloads/acrobatcleaner.html

Then, you can download the full offline Reader installer from

http://get.adobe.com/reader/enterprise/

After downloading, restart your computer and run the installer before doing anything else.
