Cannot Reinstall Adobe Acrobat Reader DC

Community Beginner ,
Jan 15, 2019 Jan 15, 2019

Hi,

I uninstalled Adobe Acrobat Reader DC and tried reinstalling it.  But when I try to reinstall it, there is an error and it mentions that a newer version is already installed.  But there is not Adobe Acrobat Reader DC installed on my computer, I confirmed by checking within Add/Remove programs in Control Panel.

Appreciate your help in reinstalling Adobe Acrobat Reader DC.

Thanks

I installed the "2019-01 Preview of of Monthly Quality Rollup for Windows 7 for x64-based Systems (KB4480955)" within windows updates from my computer, which included the "Universal CRT" and this allowed me to install Adobe Reader.  Thanks.

Hi ggalvan1,

As per the issue description mentioned above, you are facing issue when trying to install reader on the machine, is that correct?

Try the troubleshooting steps given in the following forum thread under post#2:

Re: A newer version is installed, 1722 error

Hi Shivam,

I am not getting the 1722 error.

Attached is the error message I am getting.  I also noticed that there is Adobe information in ProgramData.

Is there away to complete remove all the information that Adobe left behind?

Or do you still recommend, following the troubleshooting you made reference to.  If, so which one is it?  The one regarding updating windows or installing the adobe program to remove the files?

Thanks

Try removing traces of reader using cleaner tool which you can download from here: Download Adobe Reader and Acrobat Cleaner Tool - Adobe Labs , reboot the machine, then reinstall reader from here: Adobe Acrobat Reader DC Install for all versions

If you are still getting newer version already installed error, try the troubleshooting steps given in the above forum thread on installing the update for windows.

Let us know if you need any help.

Hi,

I downloaded and ran the Adobe Reader and Acrobat Cleaner Tool - Adobe Labs.

It gave me the option the option to remove:  Acrobat or Reader.  I selected Reader.  Is this fine?  When would one select "Acrobat"?

It mentioned that Setup could not find Acrobat Reader installed on the machine.  Acrobat Reader will be removed from C:\Programs Files (x86)\Adobe\Reader*.*  Once I ran it mentioned that Acrobat Reader DC has been successfully removed from the machine and to restart the computer to complete the setup.

I noticed that there is still information in the C:  ProgramData/Adobe folder.

Should I go ahead and try to reinstall the Adobe Reader?  Somehow I think that since there is still information in ProgramData/Adobe, that is why it might be having trouble installing Adobe?  Just want to double check before trying to reinstall Adobe Reader DC.

Thanks

Tried reinstalling it and get the same message, that a newer version is already installed.

I have done some research online, and it looks like by clicking "AcroRead" from within C: ProgramData/Adobe/Setup is working for some people.

Does this seem something that might be appropriate.  I am not sure, since the AcroRead file that I have is from 3/17/2015.

Your concern is valid. Usage of AcroRead.msi installs 4 year old base version.

This article should resolve the issue-

Error 1722 while installing/updating Acrobat DC/Acrobat Reader DC on Windows
