Hi Carolinam,

As you get the error 135 when trying to save the file, could you please try "Save as" option from the File menu.

Go to File > Save as and save the file to some other location or folder.

Check if that works.

This seems to be the file specific issue.

Could you please try to save some other file and check if you get the same error.

Can you share the file on which you experience the issue?

If yes, you can share it using the steps mentioned here How to share a file using Adobe Document Cloud

It would be helpful if you can share the screenshot of the error message you get.

To add the screenshot here, please use the insert icon provided in the reply window as shown below:

Capture screenshot.PNG

Once you click on this icon, you get a small window.

Click on Insert Image and then browse the location where you have saved the screenshot file.

Select the file and click on Open > Insert Image.

Let us know if you need any help.

Regards,

Meenakshi

This error generally occurs due to the incompatibility of settings between the version of Acrobat that created the pdf and the version of Acrobat that is being used to view the pdf.

To resolve this issue just go to preferences, click on “General” tab, and then uncheck the “Save As optimizes for Fast Web View”.  Now check whether the issue is resolved or not.

I am also facing the same issue and it's incredibly frustrating. The above "solutions" do not work.

same here. Lost over an hour to adapt and sign a contract. None of the steps mentioned above works. I can't save the document. Before I installed Adobe Acrobat Reader I was at least able to fill in and save the form. NowI can still make some changes but impossible to save. And the clock is ticking .... X-mas deadline ... Could please advise what to do? I work with a Mac and possibly that's part of the problem?

Just was going to report that in my current case, the above fixed the error 135 when trying to save the file from Reader DC. Thanks very much.

FYI, same issue here. After a lot of trial & error, I downloaded Foxit Reader (free), added an additional comment (just to modify something), saved the PDF again through that application as a completely new PDF file, and after that I was able to edit the PDF document (including any comments etc.) through Adobe Acrobat again.

Hope this helps.

My document was a pdf ebook that I needed to highlight and continuously save, which wasn't wrking because I kept getting the above error message (135) so I saved it as a word document using:

File - Export to - Microsoft Word - Word Document

then saved it back as a pdf from word.

This solution may or may not work depending on the type of editing you need to do on your pdf and the content of your pdf. But as said above, in the other solutions, save it as anything other than a pdf and then save it back into a pdf.

Hope it helps!

I had the same problem. My solution (no other software needed):

  1. My file was already open in Acrobat DC, couldn't save my changes.
  2. Choose File > Create > Combine Multiple Files into a single PDF.
  3. Add Open Files, select the broken open file
  4. Click Combine to 'merge' the 1 file into one PDF.
  5. Save that PDF as you are used to.

Felix, your advice was SPOT-ON. I downloaded Adobe today; it's my first time using it to edit a huge document for a client - and when I tried to save? Error 135.

I did as you suggested and it has worked!

You are a lifesaver. Thank you.

Everything was working fine and now I always get this error msg. I tried changing the preferences as mentioned in a previous post and that didn't work. Had to combine a single file to create a new file. This is annoying.
