Yesterday I noticed that my PDFs in the file search were not previewing in the preview plane. Instead there was a messages saying: -

This file can't be previewed.

I soon realised that I can't open any PDFs or Adobe Reader itself because, every time I try, a message box appears: -

Windows cannot access the specified device, path or file.  You may not have the appropriate permissions to access the item.

I'm not sure why this message is coming up and I haven't made any changes to my system. It's perplexing at best!

Please helpThanking you for your time in advance.

Hi Sonia,

Sorry to hear about the trouble caused.

As shared, the error message appears is "Windows cannot access the specified device, path or file.  You may not have the appropriate permissions to access the item" this error is generally specific to the system.

Here is an Microsoft's support article, where its described in detail. Follow the troubleshooting steps suggested here: https://support.microsoft.com/en-in/help/2669244/windows-cannot-access-the-specified-device-path-or-...  and let us know if that still doesn't work.

Thanks,

Akanchha

Thanks for your suggestions Akanchha, I truly wished it had solved my problem but alas no.

Method 1: Check the permission of the file or folder - I tried this method on PDF files and on the Adobe reader and still the same message persist.

The other methods didn't apply to my issue.

The problem seems to be the link between windows and adobe and not the individual files. I feel totally confused.
