I have been trying to open several pdf presentations from the American Red Cross. When they are downloaded they will open. An error box appears and states "There was an error opening this document. The file is damaged and could not be repaired." I have followed the Red Cross's advice and insured that I have the latest versions of adobe reader and flash player. Does anyone have any advice? My computer will open documents in Adobe fine but will not open the presentations.

Jane-e,
I want to thank you for trying to help me. You were the only one who stepped up to help me out. I figured out the issue. My McAfee firewall was blocking something when I downloaded the presentations. I’m not sure how or what it was doing, but when I turned off the firewall and re-downloaded the file it began to work like the others. I turned my firewall back on after the download and it still successfully works correctly. I was about in a panic because I have six red cross classes to tea

Are the presentations in PDF?
Are you downloading them first or opening them from the browser?
Which browser?
Can you give a link to one of the presentations so we can test it?

Hello,
It is a video presentation. I do not think I can provide a link as the presentation is password protected. I am downloading them first and then trying to open them. I am not sure what you mean by opening them from a browser. I am using Chrome and I have tried Firefox. I can try to send the file via email if you would like. I will also send you the instructions.
Thank you.

The link you sent is not a PDF. Check the other links and see if they end in PDF. If they are not PDFs, you won't be able to open them in the Adobe Acrobat Reader.
If they can be downloaded, and if they are videos, you might need a video viewer to see them.
Can you watch them online? You would need a viewer for that, too. Maybe QuickTime or something else? I am guessing since I haven't seen the files.

Thank you again and I hope you have a very Merry Christmas.

Hi Greg,
I am so very glad you got everything downloaded—especially right before Christmas when everyone is busy and Adobe itself is closed.
I used to be a Red Cross canoe instructor and have taken a lot of first aid classes—it's a great organization. I just want to say thank you for teaching whatever classes you are teaching for them. You are awesome for doing that!
