How can I install Acrobat Reader when I get error message 'Newer version already installed'?

Community Beginner ,

I've recently uninstalled Adobe Acrobat Reader DC due to getting error messages. I've tried a couple of times to reinstall it - keep getting the 'Newer version already installed' message, even thought there's no folder/files on C drive. Can anyone suggest what I can do to get installation to work?

Hello Lynj,

We're sorry for the trouble you had with Adobe Reader, please reboot the machine once, then use Acrobat cleaner tool to remove any corrupt or conflicting installation files of Adobe Reader Download Adobe Reader and Acrobat Cleaner Tool - Adobe Labs

Reboot the machine and then download the setup of Adobe Reader from ftp://ftp.adobe.com/pub/adobe/reader/win/AcrobatDC/1900820081/

Once the setup file AcroRdrDC1900820081_en_US.exe is downloaded, right-click on it and choose 'properties’.

Click on the ‘compatibility’ tab and check the box ‘Run this program in compatibility mode for’ and select Windows 8/7 operating system from the drop down menu and proceed with the installation.

Once this is done, restart the computer and locate the Adobe Reader icon and right-click and choose 'Run as Administrator' and check.

If the issue still persists, please create a test user profile with full admin rights and install Adobe Reader from the ftp link and check.

Let us know how it goes and share your findings.

Thanks,

Anand Sri.

Hello Anand Sri and thanks for your reply.

I followed your suggestion; the Acrobat cleaning process and AcroRdrDC1900820081_en_US.exe download worked okay.

I started the installation in compatibility mode for Windows 7 and this ran up to the point where I got the error message; 'Error 1722. There is a problem with this Windows Installer package'.

I now need to resolve this windows Installer problem and then can hopefully return to the Adobe Reader installation.

Thanks again for your help with my query on Adobe Acrobat Reader,

lynj.

Hello again Anand Sri,

Further to my earlier message, I contacted Microsoft Support regarding 'error 1722 windows installer'. They did remote control access of my PC to try to solve this issue and have found no problem with my Windows Installer. They have suggested an issue with the set up file of Acrobat Reader, after they tried to follow the downloaded file you mentioned above. Can you give me many further help?

Many thanks,

lynj.
