How can I repair a damaged pdf

I have some pdfs that used to be good. They come from email attachments from 2 years ago that have been on my cloud/system .

just get error message when try to open. I have done update and repair of acrobat XI already

Is there a utility available?

Urgent! Last day of work, trying to get pay history before I go. Help!

If they are really damaged, chances are you cannot fix them. How are you trying to open them (within Adobe Reader, clicking a link in a web browser...etc.) and what exactly happens when you try (please include the text of any error messages)?

I tried to open 2 ways. 1) double click on email attachment icon. 2) save file to PC and double click to open. always same message:

"There was an error opening this document. There was a problem reading this document (14)."

Just to be sure, open Adobe Reader then use File>Open to try and open the file.

Also try opening Reader and going to Edit>Preferences>Internet and turning off "Allow fast web view".
