How do I password protect a pdf file as an attachment in Windows 7 / Windows Live mail?

As I understand things, no wy with the free Reader. You woud need Acrobat.

Thank you for your quick reply.  That explains why I couldn't find a way to password protect.  I may need to buy Acrobat rather than the free reader.

You could put the document into a password-protected ZIP file.  Unfortunately Windows 7 can no longer do that, but it can be done with a 3rd-party freeware tool such as 7-Zip.

You'll need Acrobat Std. or Pro. to add a password to your PDF. Here is a quick video tutorial that explains how to do this.
