How do I speed up Adobe Reader 11

Can anyone tell me how to speed up large files saved in Adobe Reader 12? When I have a file of approximately 50000 kilobytes it slows my computer to a crawl and takes two to three minutes to go 3 pages.

Could you please check if there is an update available for Reader- launch Reader>click Help menu>select Check for Updates

Have you tried opening other large sized pdf to check if its not a file specific issue?
