I can't drag and drop pages of a pdf into my desktop as a new pdf

I've always been able to select as many pages of a pdf as I wanted, click and drag to my desktop, then let go of the mouse button, creating a brand new pdf file with those selected pages. However for some reason now when I select multiple pages and drag them to my desktop, letting go of the mouse button does nothing, no new pdf file. Can anyone help with this?

What application are you using? You posted in the Reader forum, but that's not possible in this app.

Assuming you use Acrobat, and not Reader, are you able to do it by using the Extract Pages command? If not, the file might be secured or protected in some other way that's preventing you from extracting pages from it.
