New Here ,
Dec 08, 2018 Dec 08, 2018

Hi!I have some problem with program Adobe Reader when I try to install it.

Give error "New version already installed".Why??

I install program Adobe Reader on fresh Windows *(7 x64Ultimate) installed.

I have this problem for some time ago but no one has ever solved it since then.

I google it and I found some fix but why anyone from Abobe does not solve this?

You can try using this tool to first remove all traces of Reader from your computer:

http://labs.adobe.com/downloads/acrobatcleaner.html

Then, you can download the version you want from

Adobe Acrobat Reader DC Install for all versions

After downloading, restart your computer and run the installer before doing anything else.

Mostly fellow users around here, you'd have to  ask Adobe about the "why"s. I have offered you a method that has worked for many people with similar problems, and you are of course free to chose not to follow my suggestion.

I try to clean with tool "AbodeAcroCleaner_DC2015", I select both options there and "Adobe" and "Reader", I don't know differences between them, I restart computer after I cleaned and I install "Adobe Acrobat Reader DC" downloaded before restarting.

For me doesn't work with tool cleaner, are not removed all files from Adobe Reader?

Before I found something in CommonFiles I think, I'm not sure where I found...some versions was there but now I can't find anything.

The same, I read on this forums and after I deleted the folders I could install program.

Now I can't found folders with downloaded files and tool cleaner don't help me so much...

I don’t think the choice is Adobe and Reader. I think it is Acrobat and Reader. The difference is simple: Reader is the free one.

There is is much more than just files. There are system and user registry entries. There is the Windows Installer database. There are COM registrations. These are all very complex and technical, and the reason we need to carefully use the cleanup tool with the right options, not blindly.

And, yes, Adobe to seem to have messed this up, there is an epidemic of this problem.

And how to use tool?

There I can insert a way to that folders, I found where was that "old files" - I think" .

In C:/ProgramData/Adobe make a "Setup" folder and there is another two files.

I try to clear that path with tool but without succes.

Well, I don't want to run it because I have a copy of Reader and I'm happy with that. But you need to choose Reader. Don't choose extra directories. Don't delete anything at random or because you see Adobe in the name.

The solution should be here - newer version exists, error 1722, existing posts are not helping

Starting with October 2018 release all Reader versions require specific set of system files (so called runtime). Most Windows Systems already have those files from Windows Update. Some systems for one reason or another do not have those required system files. In such cases Reader installer fails with error 1722, but MSI returns different error and Adobe Download Manager displays "Newer version already installed" incorrectly.

There is no reason to use Adobe Cleanup tool.

The only 2 choices are-

Install required system files (there have been many posts here about this) and than install newest Reader.

or

Install older Reader version (before October 2018), which can be downloaded from FTP - see link in

newer version exists, error 1722, existing posts are not helping

The second option is not ideal because older Reader will not be updated to the latest, presumably more secure version.

The problem is just for users with Windows 7/8 or for everyone can returns this error?

Will be solved this bug at the last version of Reader or will always be so?

Where I can found first choices to install newest Reader? What is the required system files?

Please give some link, I don't know how to search here about that.

Hello Adriand,

You may download and install the setup file from ftp://ftp.adobe.com/pub/adobe/reader/win/AcrobatDC/1901020064/

Or you may also use the URL DC Release Notes — Release Notes for Acrobat DC Products

Let us know if you experience any issue.

Thanks,

Anand Sri.

Please install the .exe setup file.

Are you referring to the base version of Adobe Reader or the latest version?

You can install the latest update available 19.010.20064 for Windows 7 as well as the base version, however, the recommendation is to install the latest available version.

Thanks,

Anand Sri.

Great! Goo to hear that it's working. Yes, you can download and install updates from help menu of Adobe Reader or through the URL  DC Release Notes — Release Notes for Acrobat DC Products

You may suppress the auto updates using the Adobe Acrobat Customization Wizard, for detailed information, refer to Online features — Acrobat Customization Wizard DC for Windows

For Registry settings, please refer to Windows Updates

Thanks,

Anand Sri.

Hmm, but can be something what can crash another program from Windows or even files from Windows...For that I want to not do updates automatically, can be something wrong.

You should test updates before to send users...can be something dangerous or malicious.
