I have downloaded Adobe Reader, but cannot open pdf's

This is the error I am getting

Acrobat cannot open this file because a task is still active in Acrobat.

There is nothing active as far as I am aware

Hey Gcmonkey,

Looking at the description given above, it seems that application didn't close correctly.

After closing Acrobat it remains active in the background for a bit. So if you closed and reopened immediately, it may not actually have shut down completely. Go to the Task Manager and make sure it is closed or close it from there to be sure.

  • Open Task Manager> select Acrobat processes and>End Task.
  • Wait for a few seconds in between closing and reopening the task.
