In Acrobat Pro you can use Preflight functions.

Go to Edit (or the app menu if you're on a Mac computer) - Preferences - Documents and under "View documents in PDF/A mode" select "Only for PDF/A documents". If you then open a PDF/A file a toolbar will appear at the top of the window, indicating so.
