Inconsistent file names

Explorer ,
Mar 30, 2017 Mar 30, 2017

Downloading files from the Internet that have files names, for example, that look like this: CN-17-128-acv-2062. Then when the file is opened that same file name is a duplicate of that same series of text/numbers displayed in the upper left hand corner of the document.

However, increasingly I'm downloading files that have the letter/number sequence as per the above, BUT, when the document is opened in the upper left hand corner instead of a repeat of the file name as referenced above, is a text name like, UNAM or Summary of the research project, etc.

The problem is if the two file names don't match it begins to create havoc from an organizational standpoint. How can I change the file name so they are both duplicates of each other?

I found the solution -- In Acrobat Pro, choose Tools > Protection > Sanitize Document. Now the file name that shows in the upper left hand corner of the document is identical to the file name.

Depending of settings in the document you will see the file name or the title of the document.

Sanitising does a lot of things. The specific exact thing that needs to be done is to remove the TITLE from the document properties. (See File > Properties, General or Summary tab). If the TITLE is not blank it will be, not unreasonably, shown as the window title. Only if there is no title will Acrobat or Reader fall back on the file name.
