I have a series of files used to control machinery. The files are of the format xxx.dup. for some reason, Adobe reader thinks that they are pdf files and marks them as such. How can I stop this marking?

The fact that a file is associated with any application (or not) doesn't
change its actual contents.

Right-click a file while holding down Shift and select Open With, select
the application you want to use and tick the box to always use it for that
file-type.

No, that is not what I want. I do not want the files identified with any program. All I want to do is download the files and put them on a USB stick. They are then loaded into my aircraft's instrumentation. I have been having loading problems that could be caused by the files being identified as Adobe type files. In my File Explorer, a small Adobe Reader icon appears before the file title.
Can you help me to remove an association with any App?

I realise that the contents are not changed, however, from memory the header or leader information in the actual file could be changed.
The SkyView instrumentation system detects plugged in USB sticks and could access the header/leader information and if so, reject any files that do not include the word: "SkyView".
The above statement is supposition and I need to explore all possibilities to find out why .dup files are not being recognised by the SkyView system.

No, associating a file with Reader will not change it in any way.

When you associate a file type with a certain software on your computer, it is all done in your computers OS. Nothing is done to the file itself.
