Would you mind sharing more details about the exact application you are working with?
The edit feature is available with Acrobat Pro (Subscription/License). Freeware Acrobat Reader doesn't allow you to edit the file.
Please help us with the screenshot of the exact message you get on the screen. As well as the application version.
Open App>help>check for an update
