I am not sure if my description is exactly right but here is the problem.
We pdf a word document as a project check list so to speak, and each person responsible has to sign their individual parts. This has worked fine so far but suddenly my boss's version of pdf locks the document. By locked I mean once he has signed the doc nobody else can. Most of the guys use Acrobat Reader and I use Acrobat DC.
Is there a way around this?

You need to find out exactly how he signs the file. Also, have a look at the properties of your Digital Signature fields and make sure that none of them is set to lock the other fields in the file, as that would prevent them from being used after signed.
