Opening a pdf, Acrobat Reader hangs for about 20s then is OK why?

Opening a pdf in Adobe Reader, reader will report "not responding" for the first 20-30seconds then is OK.

Opening another pdf, reader will display the pdf for about 2-3seconds then "not responding" will appear for 20-30seconds.

I suspect Sophos is causing this isssue but not sure, is there a way I can narrow down why this is happening?

Hi @james_5922

Thanks for reporting the issue to Adobe. We would like some more info to help debug the issue

1. Is this happening for all PDF files  or to some specific files

2. Reader version you have on the machine

3. OS version

4. Can you please try disabling App Container mode

Regards

Ravi

Hi Ravi,

Apologies for the delay in responding.

1) Happens for all PDF files however, if 1 PDF is open and then open another, the delay is not immediate but happens after about 10seconds.

2) Adobe Reader v2024.003.20.180 64bit

3) Windows 11 23H2

4) Unticked "Run in AppContainer" from Preferences > Security (Enhanced)

The issue still happens. Opening TaskManager, I noticed Adobe Reader and Adobe CEF both use very high CPU for a few seconds then settle down maxing out the CPU at 100%. However, whilst they settled down in TaskManager the app reports not responding for about 30seconds.

Attached is the header showing not responding message
