PDF hash ranges - ETSI vs Adobe Reader

I use Adobe Reader to properly sign a PDF document. According to the entries in ByteRange, the upper section to be hashed is up to the beginning of the signature, NOT including the '<'. Similarly, the lower section to be hashed starts right after the '>'. Both '<' and '>' belong to neither the data to be hashed nor to the signature itself. However, the standard ETSI EN 319 142-2 V1.1.1 (2016-04)   displays the following Fig A.1:

The standard insists that both '<' and '>' should be included in the hash.

Any idea how to resolve this discrepancy?
