Hi at some point in the last month or so, adobe reader changed to a different UI and since then, every time I open a document or try to navigate in the app I get the pinwheel of death, it's making pdf's unusable. These are basic pdf's in my local downloads folder, macOS Big Sur 11.7.8, Adobe Acrobat Reader 2023.003.20215. What changed and how do I get back to either a simpler reader, or what setting is causing this to get hung up?

Hi @baldie123,
Hope you are doing well. Sorry for your experience with Acrobat Reader.
If you still experience the issue, I suggest updating the application to the latest version (2023.003.20244) by going to Help-> Check for updates.
Once done, go to Acrobat-> Preferences-> Page Display-> uncheck the option "Use Page Cache."
This should ease some load on the processor and make the application smoother.
Also, you can learn more about the new modern viewer here: Introducing the new Acrobat experience (adobe.com)
Hope this helps.

Hi - thanks for reply but this didn't help... I've confirmed latest versions and unchecked the Use Page Cache, performance of the 'new' reader when launching and navigating docs remains horrendous, constant freezing and pinwheel of death. I went to View > disable new Acrobat Reader to go back to the old one which works fine. If Acrobat enforces 'new' reader at some point as the only option without fixing the performance I'll set default app for .pdf's to the Preview app and stop using Adobe.
