Printing PDF on network printer is slow

Oct 14, 2024 Oct 14, 2024

Hi There

Multiple of our employees are struggling with Adobe Acrobat Reader when printing.

When they select the Print option, it takes up to 20, sometimes 30 seconds just for the Print Windows to appear. Then once I Print, it takes another 10 to 20 seconds to to send the job to the printer.

All my other Apps can print just fine and in 1 to 2 seconds.

I have updated, uninstalled and reinstalled the Adobe Acrobat Reader and the Printer Drivers to latest versions, to no prevail,

I've noticed that multiple employees are facing similar issues with Adobe Acrobat Reader when printing. After some research and troubleshooting, I found that there are a few adjustments that can help improve printing speed and performance. Here are three steps that worked for us:

1. Disable Print Preview

Sometimes, the delay in printing is due to the print preview function in Adobe Acrobat Reader. Disabling it can speed up the time it takes for the Print window to appear. Here’s how to do it:

  • Open Adobe Acrobat Reader.
  • Go to Edit > Preferences.
  • Under the Print section, uncheck the option "Show Print Preview".

This can reduce the delay when launching the print window.

2. Optimize Print Settings

Changing the default print settings may help reduce the printing time as well:

  • When printing a PDF, check Print as image in the print dialog box.
  • You can also try lowering the resolution or adjusting graphic options for faster processing.

3. Update Printer Drivers

Outdated printer drivers can sometimes cause delays in printing PDFs. Ensure that the printer drivers are updated to the latest version:

  • Visit your printer manufacturer's website.
  • Download and install the latest driver for your printer model.
  • Restart the computer and test again.

If these steps don't resolve the issue, could you please share a screenshot of the error? That would help us diagnose the problem better.

Thank you and best regards, my friend!

Hi @Johan38935309apjz

Sorry for the inconvenience caused to you.

Can you please share Acrobat diagnostic logs for the slowness issue you are facing. Also, share printer driver details. Is it only one printer where issue is happening or multiple printers?

To capture logs please visit https://helpx.adobe.com/in/acrobat/kb/acrobat-diagnostics.html

Please upload the logs and share the ID which gets generated at the end.

Hello @defaultzox1k46n9uut

I hope you are doing well. We are sorry for the trouble and for the delayed response.

Please ensure you have the latest version of Acrobat installed on the machine: 25.001.20531 (Win) | 25.001.20529 (Mac), planned update June 10, 2025. Check for any pending updates from the Menu > help > check for updates, install the updates, restart the app and the machine, and try again.

If the issue continues, please provide the following information: the current version of the operating system on your device and the logs from the affected machine. To collect the logs, download and run the Log Collector tool. Make sure to select all log options and attempt to reproduce the issue. After that, close the Log Collector tool; it will generate the logs along with a log ID. Please share this log ID with us for further investigation.

Thanks,

Anand Sri.

Good afternoon,

I am getting reports of the same issue, printing the pdf directly is fine, but as soon as they print from Adobe we are seeing 15-20 seconds delay.

We are running windows 11 with the latest version of Adobe.

Kind regards

Richard

Hi @knowledgeable_outfit9527,

Thanks for reaching out, and I'm sorry for the troubled experience. How much slowness is there in seconds in your environment?

Try disabling protected mode at startup. This suggestion is for testing only:

To disable protected mode, you'll typically navigate to the application's settings, usually under "Options" or "Preferences," then find the "Protected View" or "Security (Enhanced)" section. Uncheck any options that enable protected mode and apply the changes. Restart Acrobat and try again.

Let us know how it works.

Best regards,

Good morning, we are getting around 20 seconds delay. I have done the above, disabled "Protected View" issue is still there, when testing using Pdf24 it prints within 2 seconds.

Hello,

Thanks for the quick response. I will discuss this with the product team; however, please help us with the following details:

To collect the logs:

  1. Download and run the Diagnostics Utility from:  https://adobe.ly/3U7SNzq
  2. Click on Start Diagnostics. Ensure advanced logging is checked.
  3. Launch Acrobat, reproduce the issue with your file.
  4. Once done, click Stop Monitoring.
  5. Copy the Log ID and share it with us.

Try capturing both scenarios, meaning printing to a printer directly, hardwired, and a network printer, while collecting logs.

Best regards,
Tariq | Adobe Community Team
