setting the background in Adobe Reader

Hello,

Adobe Reader shows the PDF files with a checkered background: it looks like the text in front of a chessboard. Is it possible to set the background into one monochrome color, because this checkered pattern makes reading hard for me.

This is the "transparency grid". Useful for special purposes, but horrible otherwise. Turn it off in preferences.
