I check my add-on's in Firefox and it showed my Flash Player as well as Flash Reader were both vulnerable and should be updated. I uninstalled both and when I went onto the Adobe website there was no option for a version for Vista like there has been in the past. There is Windows 7, XP, ect but Vista seems to be taken off the list? I need to few PDF files and I no longer am able to download for Vista. Please help.

Hi lm1375662

Acrobat Reader DC is not compatible with Windows Vista.

Refer this KB doc for more information: System requirements for Adobe Acrobat Reader DC

However you can try once to install it using Windows 7 option. It may or may not work.

Hi Meenakshin!

Thank you for taking the time to reply to my post.
I find it very odd that you're saying it's not compatible with Vista as I've downloaded it before in the past and have been using totally fine until yesterday. Not sure why it's not on the list for downloads since it's always been there.. :S  I need Adobe Reader but am unable to install a Vista version.

You should've ignored the Firefox plugin checker. Did you use the AcroCleaner removal tool when you uninstalled Reader?

The last Adobe Reader product that officially supported Vista was Reader X, but Adobe ended support for Reader X six months ago: End of support for Acrobat X and Reader X . It is therefore not surprising that Vista and Reader X are no longer mentioned at the download site. Probably most people running Vista are now using other PDF readers such as Sumatra or Foxit. It so happens that I have a 32-bit Vista PC, and I am using Reader XI, even though it never officially supported Vista - in fact I applied the latest 11.0.16 patch yesterday. (Nevertheless, the Firefox plugin checker incorrectly states that it is outdated.)

If you are determined to run unsupported software, I would first run AcroCleaner for 10.x and later (or 9.x as the case may be), if you haven't already done so: Download Adobe Reader and Acrobat Cleaner Tool - Adobe Labs . Then go to Adobe - Adobe Acrobat Reader DC Distribution (for full offline installers), enter Windows 7 as your operating system in Step 1, and select Reader 11.0.10 in Step 3. After downloading, right-click and select "run as administrator." Assuming it is working properly, you can then download and apply the latest cumulative patch (the built-in updater won't give you anything): Adobe - Adobe Reader : For Windows : Adobe Reader 11.0.16 update - All languages . [Edit] Recently learned that Foxit Reader no longer lists Vista as a supported OS either.

Could you be more specific please?

I have used Reader XI on Vista continuously for three years now, and I was certainly not the first to discover that it works fine - no doubt because XI supports Server 2008, which is merely a server version of Vista. Unfortunately, Reader XI will soon be an unsupported product like Reader X before it. The last version to support Windows XP was 11.0.08, so I would say that XP is even "deader" than Vista when it comes to Adobe Reader.

You can get all the older versions of Reader from here: ftp://ftp.adobe.com/pub/adobe/reader/win/

Try installing version 9. I believe it was still compatible with Vista.

I think I see what is happening.

1. On the Reader download page Adobe only offer supported versions of Acrobat Reader. That is, today, Reader DC and Reader XI.

2. Reader XI can run in Windows XP. So this appears as a choice. If you select XP it will automatically deliver the old, but supported XI.

3. Reader XI is NOT for Vista. Hence there is no supported download to offer, and Vista does not appear.

Soon support for Reader XI will end. I imagine Adobe will eventually remove XP from the support list.  XP is dead. But Vista is much, much deader.

1. watch the video “ installing adobe reader on windows vista” by MIAMA USRC.

2. Follow the steps below :

3. Note that only 11.00 will work for some vista users. Please choo the file extension of - .exe AND NOT .msi - for uk users.

subject : To install Adobe version 11.00 in english for windows vista, go to.

1. ftp://ftp.adobe.com/pub/adobe/reader/win/11.x/11.0.00/en_US/

2. choose : [parent directory]

AdbeRdr11000_en_US.exe 36.1 MB 9/24/12, 12:00:00 AM

3. It will take some long time and it will  install.

I see someone else has discovered that Reader XI was the best product for Vista. Too bad this discovery comes five months after the final 11.0.23 patch was issued, i.e. Reader XI is no longer supported. At https://get.adobe.com/reader/enterprise/ you must nowadays select Windows Server 2008 (which was nothing more than a server version of Vista) as your operating system in order to get a Reader 11.0.10 offline installer which is not as old as the one recommended by "Mr. Gee Gab." Since Adobe will sooner or later get around to removing Server 2008 from all dropdown lists also, I might as well go ahead and post an ftp link where your next step is to select language (unlike "Mr. Gee Gab," I do not assume that everyone running Vista wants an English version): ftp://ftp.adobe.com/pub/adobe/reader/win/11.x/11.0.10/

And here is is the final patch, to be applied after installation (if you never heard of MUI, that's the wrong patch): ftp://ftp.adobe.com/pub/adobe/reader/win/11.x/11.0.23/misc/
